HOW TO PASS THE NMC CBT EXAM FOR NURSES

1. Acknowledge that you need to take this test

With the new process in UK application for nurses, a lot have been complaining and having second thoughts about the idea of taking an exam. The CBT exam for nurses started with the wrong foot that a number of their test takers failed on the first quarter since its launching. After which, everything turned tables that they now have great percentage of passers.

Now, why do you think they failed?

The test is new. We all know that when something is launched, the first consumers are like guinea pigs and everything is like an experiment that has lots of rooms for improvement.

They wished they could have been part of the old process.

Lack of resources. I know there is this blueprint in NMC which is by the 150+ pages of pure links which includes some damaged, useless links and is basically a compilation of both substantial and crap information. But, who would have all the time to go over each link? Nobody.

Lack of study time. It is a given that everyone who are to take the exam are working and when you are working, YOU DON’T HAVE THE LUXURY TO STUDY LIKE KIDS DO AT SCHOOL!!!

2. The blueprint
The actual blueprint looks like this.

Now, imagine yourself scrolling through this blueprint 150+ times and making sure not to miss each the links on each page. It’s crazy!

 DOMAINS                                               APPROXIMATE PERCENTAGE
Professional Values                                                                   27%
Communication and Interpersonal Skills                        10%
Nursing Practice and Decision Making                            33%
Leadership, Management, Teamwork                             13%
Specific Nursing Field                                                               17%

3. Familiarize the structure of the CBT exam

The nursing CBT is made up of 120 multiple choice questions. These questions must be completed in a maximum of 4 hours. 50 questions will relate to generic nursing competencies found in each domain of nursing. 50 questions will be the application of generic nursing competencies to the specific field of nursing being applied for, for example, as applied to the adult, child, person with a learning disability or person with a mental health problem. 20 questions will focus solely on the specific competencies required for the field of nursing being applied for.  A proportion of all questions must be passed– these represent critical items which focus on patient or public safety. A failure of one of these critical items will result in an overall failure.
